Tân'si, I'm Dr. Melissa Jay (she/her)!My intention is to support myself and others in learning, unlearning, and healing, by infusing spirit into all that I do.As Nehiyaw member of the Métis Nation of Alberta, I hold many privileged roles: Registered Psychologist, Director of Canmore Counselling & Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology School, as well as Assistant Professor at Athabasca University. My heart is dedicated to helping to create paths towards trauma-informed, socially just, anti-oppressive support through integrating ancient wisdom traditions and psychology by way of offering trauma-informed trainings, workshops, education, and research. My work is community-based and collaborative, with an emphasis on wellness, healing, and amplifying Indigenous worldviews and decolonization.I live in Chuwapchipchiyân Kudi Bi (translated from Îyârhe Nakoda as “shooting at the willows”) with my spouse and Lulu, our rescue-turned-therapy dog. Canmore is located the beautiful Rocky Mountains which is home to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III, and the traditional territory of the Îyârhe Nakoda Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley First Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Blackfoot Confederacy: Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai.
