Many refugee camps in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti are hastily constructed tarp and cardboard make shift towns. As we approach the third year anniversary of the devastating earthquake that decimated life in Haiti, more and more disjointed families feel hopeless, as if they are screaming silently into the wind. While no one person can swoop in and save or correct everything, studies show that art therapy as a creative outlet provides healing to young adults and children as they are usually less capable and less comfortable expressing themselves through words.

Garden Variety Cheese is asmall farmstead cheese business basedin Northern Monterey County on a 40 acreMonkeyflower Ranch.We began commercial milking and cheese production in March 2009. Our sheep produce lovely, rich sweet milk that makes fabulous cheese and yogurt. To ensure the health and well-being of the animals and the high quality of the milk and cheese from Garden Variety Cheese, the 100 milking ewes here at Monkeyflower Ranch are fed on fresh pasture, alfalfa hay and organic brewer’s grain from Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing and organic corn from Modesto Milling. Each ewe is named after a garden flower and treated with love and respect. Our dairy sheep are seasonal producers--eachindividual only gives milk for about six months per year. This season, we have staggered our breeding and hope to have fresh milk for yogurt for most of the year.

Lighting Up The Sky is a 501C3 organization begun by 10 women who saw a need to pool their skills and resources to assist communities in need. For fiscal 2010/11, our organization is working on building a garden program at Martin Luther King Elementary School in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans. MLK elementary is the only school to resurface in the Ninth Ward after Hurricane Katrina and was sponsored by Common Ground and the surrounding community remaining in New Orleans. I am the organization leader and connector of all the dots, lacer of all the shoes, crosser of the T's and I also mind my P's and Q's.

Coordinated a large scale breast cancer benefit complete with artist showcase, fashion show, vintage wine release and autumn menu samplings.
