About Melissa Martens (Butler)

The most valuable work that I have done, has always supported individuals, families, and communities thrive. My professional career has allowed me to explore and develop programs and initiatives that support individuals and families with disabilities to access their community; recreation programs; licensed preschool and licensed before and after school programs, and events. I have been fortunate to work with many community partners and to work in a variety of environments to support a holistic approach to accessibility within recreation services, programs and events. I have also been granted the opportunity to work closely with local land-based nations, community organizations, partners and sponsors to push initiatives that acknowledge, and show respect and admiration for Indigenous Peoples past, present and future. My work to deliver an entirely Indigineous-led event, for the past 6 years, has offered me countless learning opportunities and has significantly grown my passion for working with, and supporting, individuals, families, and communities to surpass their personal and professional goals. I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given, and I strive to continue working with organizations that share my personal and professional values, honour, respect and support their staff and patrons, and are continuously improving their services.
