About Melodi Bowman Sotelo, Phd
I was a Senior Scientist and Manager at Charles River Laboratories, South San Francisco. I worked with multiple clients on different projects from a variety of CNS backgrounds such as neurodegeneration and psychiatric disorders. As a manager, I oversaw multiple research associates within the CNS team. I enjoyed providing mentorship and career development.Scientifically, my passion is in uncovering novel mechanisms to treat psychiatric disorders. I earned my PhD in Integrated Biomedical Sciences Program with emphasis in Neuroscience at UT Health San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Before joining UTHSCSA, I obtained a Master's degree in Psychological Research at California State University, Long Beach. During both the Master's and the PhD programs, I earned numerous awards for presentations and travel awards to national and international conferences. I have always been very involved in outreach and was one of the founders and past president of a women in science organization at UTHSCSA. I enjoy mentoring and inspiring individuals to pursue a career in STEM.
