As a Product Designer in government, I work closely with administrators, facilitating staff, and the public in the conception, development, and delivery of people-centric digital services. For administrators, I take the time to learn their area of business and develop focused specifications through research, guiding the process through critical design decisions and procurements where necessary. For facilitating staff, I focus on their needs and work processes, looking for ways to make their tasks more manageable through a system’s design, implementation, and supporting materials. For the public, I ensure that they have an advocate at every phase of a project and that we produce accessible solutions that are intuitive, visually pleasing, and empathetic to user needs.Guiding this work is over 20 years of experience as a web professional. I created my first commercial websites at 16 and progressed to building sites for companies such as 3M and Air Canada. Disenchanted by the agency world, I pursued a multi-year flirtation with urban planning and design while continuing as a web freelancer. Chance and organizational need for web expertise eventually linked my original passion to one for public service.I’m a certified user experience specialist, a full LAMP-stack developer, and an expert in responsive design. I’ve managed numerous large-scale projects, produced RFPs and evaluated proposals, and am an excellent writer. I’m a voracious learner who’s working daily to up my game, particularly concerning accessibility and service design. When not building the digital future, you can find me among the mountain tops of the Canadian Rockies and other faraway places in search of adventure.
