Key Deliverables:-----------------------• Work performed on the samples involved Hematological tests, Clinical Chemistry tests, Lymphocyte separation, aliquoting plasma samples for storage for future use, HIV-1 RNA extraction from plasma samples and amplification by Real-Time PCR, and CD4 Count, Milk processing, cervical Vaginal Specimen processing, TB, STI screening and ELIZA assays. • Analyzed Quality Control samples for both Internal and External Quality Assessment (EQA) schemes for accuracy and precision checks of analyzers and the Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) used. The EQA programs were for Clinical Chemistry, Leukocyte Immunophenotyping and Hematology. • Updated and compiled SOPs, preparation of reagents, stock checking and ordering consumables and other lab equipment by using in-house developed inventory checklist for both consumables and Equipment. Sourced Lab supplies quotations from well-developed supplier data bases.

Key Deliverables:-------------------------• Running biochemistry tests for both research and routine samples from HIV Studies, Malaria Vaccine Trials, Outpatient, Inpatient Department and field samples using high technology analyzers e.g. Vita Lab Selectra E and quarterly stock checking of all reagent and chemicals. • Participated in QC programs both External and Internal Assessment scheme; compiled and reviewed SOPs for analyzers used and procedures for sample testing and reagent preparations. • Maintenance of analyzers e.g. Vita Lab Selectra E, Photometer 5010, Osmometer, Chloride analyzer and calibration on daily basis using standards and controls and charting them on calibration charts for Internal Quality Assessments. • Stock taking, ordering of reagents and consumables for the Biochemistry department. • Run a quarterly parasitic blood film Internal Quality Assessment for lab technologists working in the organization. • Trained and supervised students on their industrial attachment and assist in writing up their projects. • Participated in pioneering a community health laboratory in Pingilikani (rural set up) for screening patients being recruited in antimalarial drug monitoring studies. Other duties-----------------Phlebotomy, reading cross- sectional bleed blood slides from the field; analyze stool samples from out and in-patients, performing Blood Counts on Venous Blood Samples, reading Peripheral Blood Films, performing ELIZA assays on Malaria samples and running Hemoglobin Electrophoresis.
