Some say that I'm hardcore as a lawyer and what they mean is I don't cave easily. I am firm but never difficult. I know the law thoroughly and I overlay my years of legal expertise with my common-sense interpretation of what is possible. I stand shoulder to shoulder with my clients and give clear, firm, caring, decision support through the most difficult and trying times. The decisions my clients make when working with me changes their lives for the better. The number of referrals I receive are a testament to my work. I come into my element when consulted about a protracted matter and by that, I mean one that has become stuck for whatever reason. When needed, I will help clients cut through their emotional blockages and sense of injustice about their situation. I support my clients, so they know how to focus on the needs of the situation rather than on the unfairness, their own grievances and emotional space.If there is one thing, I know to be the truth it is that in 99% of cases, it is preferable to negotiate rather than leave clients to the vagaries of the courts and to the uncertainty of a judge making decisions for them. I like to ensure that my clients have some control over the important challenges, decisions and relationships in their lives. Some may think that I am able to wave a magic wand but in reality it is the team I form with my clients that gets the work done. There are very good reasons why in my 24 years of practicing as a lawyer that only one of my clients has had their matter go to a full contested hearing. I work hard to listen to my clients and test what is going on with in their matters. I help my clients see their situation clearly and understand the usability of various dispute resolution options. I give my clients the patience and the support to endure the process of negotiating. I make sure that they know all of their options because I will scout out those options so that they can make progress. I help my clients decide where they need to stand firm and where to compromise. If needed, I will help them find the courage they didn't know they had.
