About Meshendia Dampier
"If you're not prepared to be wrong, you'll never come up with anything original.”This quote, from an educational hero of mine - Sir Ken Robinson - has helped shape my career. It is a reminder to explore the 'what ifs' in education in spite of those who say ‘this is how it is always done’. I like to constantly question if I can offer something better to those I work with – both students and colleagues. With over 12 years of experience in primary education, I am privileged to have played a part in many people’s stories; whether that is in the role of teaching assistant or class teacher, mentor to teacher trainees and new to the profession or in a leadership role supporting colleagues. My professionalism and dedication are key driving forces in my life. All of my experience and knowledge gained through personal study and practise, has led me to a point where I am exploring alternative employment, which still has education of the future generations at its core. I want to focus on ways to help students build a range of transferrable skills and interests, helping them to realise their potential, in order to live a happy and successful life. I am motivated by trying to ensure that a curriculum is broad, full of exciting opportunities and recognises that one size and style does not fit all. I am interested in working with like-minded individuals, organisations and charities in sectors of:• Mental health awareness, • Innovative teaching and learning techniques • Building broader connections • Alternative educational provisions • Development of secure basic reading and writing skills with younger pupils

Upon my return to the UK, I worked as a supply teacher to allow flexibility for further studies and training opportunities. My supply posts were in a variety of different schools across London, involving short and long-term positions.

Working with pupils in years 1-4, I also took on extra responsibility as Leader for Pupil Voice, which focussed on the passions of pupils and ensuring their voices were heard in school decisions. My additional responsibility required me to organise and manage school council meetings, build a working group including school council members, school governors and senior leadership team, the parent/ teacher association and professionals from organisations such as Cancer Research UK.
