I joined the 1 form entry school as a year 2 class teacher and quickly took on extra responsibilities of Key Stage 1 Phase Leader and Phonics Lead. I mentored trainee teachers and supported colleagues with planning and behaviour management in their classes. Other responsibilities attached to my role included delivering presentations, designing and monitoring a Phonics scheme including training for staff and writing progress reports and leading whole school assemblies.

Using social media, I made links with teachers, in schools around the world, who were interested in curriculum design and innovation and during a career break, I visited schools in Australia and New Zealand. Upon my return to the UK, I worked as a supply teacher to allow flexibility for further studies and training opportunities. My supply posts were in a variety of different schools across London, involving short and long-term positions.

Working with pupils in years 1-4, I also took on extra responsibility as Leader for Pupil Voice, which focussed on the passions of pupils and ensuring their voices were heard in school decisions.My additional responsibility required me to organise and manage school council meetings, build a working group including school council members, school governors and senior leadership team, the parent/ teacher association and professionals from organisations such as Cancer Research UK. I managed a school council budget and lead whole school fundraising activities.I played an active part in school development projects and conducted my own research into the use of Design Thinking skills to teach History, Geography and Science. I presented to colleagues and other professionals, about the impact of the approaches on learning and also provided guidance and training to schools, during the trial of ReflectED,across England.

Following the National Curriculum, I planned sequences of lessons, for subjects including Mathematics, English and Science on MS Word, MS PowerPoint and SMART Notebook. Using a range of resources and teaching styles, I delivered content, assessed understanding and collated data via MS Excel and SIMS. Regular progress reviews and meetings with parents/ carers, in person and via the phone, meant that I had to adapt my communication style.
