About Dan Lynch

I'm probably best known these days as co-presenter of a popular podcast on Linux and FOSS which you can find at http://www.linuxoutlaws.comI host a fortnightly music show focusing on Independent artists and Creative Commons. It's called Rathole Radio and has featured guests such as Alexei Sayle, David Rovics, MC Frontalot and more. Find it at - http://ratholeradio.orgIn addition I appear on the TWIT network hosting FLOSS Weekly. Along with producing a number of podcasts for others through PodFactory.orgI've done some professional writing work, mostly reviews. I hope to do more writing and broadcasting in the future and am very interested in radio work.I'm a musician and have worked professionally as an audio engineer in both live and studio environments over the years. I continue to do so whenever possible, playing various instruments and arranging events.I have produced Drupal-powered content management systems for many clients including major record labels and artists. My main interest is Open Source software. I program in Python and have many crazy ideas for desktop, web and mobile apps. Maybe one day I'll get around to them. Producing, editing, advising etc. I also write and broadcast about Open Source technology, independent music and more through various shows. I host the FLOSS Weekly podcast on the popular TWIT network.In addition I also develop websites for many independent clients, primarily with Drupal. This has helped me learn a lot more about CSS and front end web interfaces recently. Bringing slightly rusty skills up to date.

    I worked building software and hardware solutions for the hospital, it was a challenging job with different projects coming in all the time. I also looked after the Hospitals various websites and private Intranet infrastructure writing web applications and managing servers. I gained a lot of experience with Formscape which I used to create a new system for printing and ordering blood tests and integrated it into the legacy Unix PAS system. I was responsible for managing and implementing all of my own projects and it taught me a lot. Sadly I had to leave this job due to prolonged ill health.

    I worked as a sound engineer in a small team running shows at the college and managing equipment hiring and maintenance for musicians, dancers, actors, art exhibitions and any other kind of show basically. The venue wasn't massive but held about 500-1000 people for large shows. We also helped with training the students in theatre technology. I loved setting up and operating large PAs for gigs and also got to do a fair bit of lighting and rigging. It taught me a hell of a lot and I made friends for life in the process.
