At Regenstrief Institute, our team's work on a National Cancer Institute-funded implementation trial reflects a steadfast commitment to improving survivorship care through digital health innovations. Our efforts aim to empower cancer survivors with Internet-based tools for symptom management and vital follow-up screening to reduce cancer recurrence. With a recent certification as a Clinical Research Professional (CCRP), my focus is to coordinate research activities within the Center for Health Services Research that ensure seamless study operations and participant support. In my previous roles as a Research Specialist, Project Assistant, and Research Assistant, I worked in various clinical and non-clinical research laboratories at the Indiana University School of Medicine, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and at Indiana University-Indianapolis (formerly Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis). The projects I worked on provided opportunities for me to develop skills in study design (with a particular interest in community-based research methodologies), participant recruitment, scientific manuscript writing, data analysis, IRB submission, qualitative research, co-facilitation of pilot behavioral interventions in clinical and community settings, and ethical research practices. My transition from a career in transportation and logistics to a vocation in research has been a natural progression, leveraging my strengths in cross-functional team leadership and stakeholder engagement. This pivot reflects my desire to do work that translates into tangible solutions which directly benefit both individuals and communities, and that are founded upon values of equity, empathy, compassion, and rigorous scientific inquiry.I believe that success is only possible when team members feel safe to give and receive guidance and honest feedback to each other, are encouraged to collaborate with a spirit of openness and creativity, and are provided the ability to attend to their roles and responsibilities outside of work as much as (and, when needed, more than) their roles and responsibilities in the workplace. Respect for the autonomy, welfare, and equitable treatment of others are not only guiding principles of research involving human beings, they are also values that I do my best to work for and to live by every single day. I do not always succeed, but when I fail I know that it is an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to be accountable.
