Michael A. Simpson is a novelist and an award‐winning writer, producer and director of feature films, documentaries, commercials and interactive programs. He is a partner of Informant Media, which he founded. The company’s inaugural production was the Academy Award-winning “Crazy Heart,” which he executive produced. For Informant, Simpson executive produced "Hysteria" "Stuck In Love" "Erased" and "Boychoir" and produced "Kidnapping Mr. Heineken."Under the production banner Cairo Simpson Entertainment (CSE) the company and its principals have produced more than 20 movies and television programs, and developed dramatic series for ABC, USA Network, TBS and HBO Independent Productions that Simpson wrote and executive produced. For CSE, Simpson and partner Judy Cairo produced the movie "Candy Jar," which aired on Netflix in 2018. Simpson’s debut feature film as a writer and director, “Impure Thoughts,” was a Grand Jury Prize Dramatic Nominee at the Sundance Film Festival. Simpson produced and directed two groundbreaking, original documentary series for TBS, “Portrait of America” and “The World of Audubon.” His Georgia segment for “Portrait of America,” a profile of the state hosted by Hal Holbrook, received an Emmy and a George Foster Peabody award. Films produced by Informant Media principals and producer partners have garnered ten Academy Award® nominations, winning three Oscars®, multiple Golden Globes® and Emmys®, and numerous other awards.Simpson was a juror for the 2005 Santa Barbara International Film Festival. In 2010, Simpson was named to the Honorary Board of CINE, which provides recognition to established and emerging filmmakers. The board includes other notable CINE Golden Eagle Award winners Ken Burns, Bill Moyers and Steven Spielberg.Simpson has extensive knowledge of, and experience in, the international distribution of films.
