About Michael Ackermann
I am a third year PhD student with significant research experience. I have experience researching in Micromagnetics, Mathematical Biology, Model Reduction, and Numerical Analysis. I have internship experience in creating mathematical models for social science. Through this research I have learned:• Expression of mathematical concepts to other team members• Development of robust coding projects, sometimes with multiple team members• To search the scientific literature for new methods and best practices.While being very experienced in research, I personally believe that the ability to effectively communicate ones research is even more important. To this end, I have:• Authored a paper• Taken courses in effective scientific and mathematical communication• Presented my work several times, speaking to audiences with background knowledge ranging from the general public to scientific conferences and department seminars• Constantly revised my presentation style so as to communicate my ideas to a broad audience while maintaining accuracy.I recently received my Masters degree last Spring, and am continuing at Virginia Tech to earn my PhD.
