About Michael Althouse, Phd

Prominent American Transcendentalist essayist, poet, and philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be."From a very young age, I remember dreaming of someday moving to Paris and becoming a famous artist. I was deeply passionate about drawing and sketching and enamored by the thought of traveling abroad and immersing myself in a new and exciting culture. Determined to get a jump start on my goals, I picked up a copy of, "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Learning French," and had my mom enroll me in art classes at a local community arts center. Looking back on 7- or 8-year old me, while my career trajectory has changed from what it once was, my passion and determination for learning and growing has not. I realize now that the person I decided to be then was an individual who is motivated, open to novel experiences, and approaches challenge as opportunity. From that, I have evolved into an individual who believes highly in the importance of acting with integrity and authenticity, fostering an organization-wide growth mindset through impactful learning and development initiatives, and remaining steadfast in my commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and fairness.
