About Michael Andersen
I my research, I use in vivo electrophysiology in freely moving animals to correlate midbrain spike activity and the regulation of locomotion. More specifically, I study the relationship between neuronal activity in pedunculo pontine nucleus and cuneiformis nucleus under locomotion and how the neuronal activity is changed under interference of dopamine neurotransmission. This is investigated in series of experiments recording from animals treated with dopamine D1 and D2 receptor antagonists and in 6-OHDA lesioned animals. Together with biological research, I also focus on technological innovation improving long term functionality and stability of recording electrodes for single neuron recording and optogenetic stimulation.Along with my research I also assist with veterinary advises, guidance and ethical applications for the research group.Research interests:In vivo electrophysiologyLocomotionAnimal behaviorNeurology and diseases
