My main focus is currently on managing restoration projects, community outreach/education, and developing systems to track and communicate project progress.

King County

Led WCC’s DNRP crews in supervisors' absence, restoring wildlife habitat in diverse ecosystems across King County. Organized restoration projects, communicated with project managers/ecologists, communicated expectations to the crew, planted native trees and shrubs, removed invasive species, and installed wildlife controls. Tracked and performed tool upkeep, developed tool maintenance plans, managed tool inventories, and ensured proper and safe use of tools. Built a year-round tool maintenance plan, worked with crews to prioritize efficiency and organization in the shop, and educated corps members in physical and theoretical ideas of restoration.

Medina, Washington

Directly managed a team of up to 12 employees in a 5-acre nursery specializing in back-of-house nursery tasks. Organized with owner and department managers to prioritize, track, and monitor site-wide plant inventories, IPM, watering schedules, and maintenance projects. Managed and taught employees plant ID, installation, tree/shrub care, plant deliveries, and tool upkeep and repair.

Co-managed a one-acre educational farm with ~120 raised beds teaching diverse groups of all ages about ecology and food farming through hands-on activities, discussion, and food preparation. Other projects include biodiversity mapping, restoration & education in Randall’s Island Urban Wetland, site-wide IPM, garden design in public parks, and construction.

Social Circle, Georgia

Monitored vegetation response to varying management techniques in Longleaf Pine Forests across Southern Georgia. Other projects included Gopher Tortoise surveys, rare species habitat restoration, prescribed burns, herbarium maintenance, cataloging threatened plant populations, and improving Georgia’s Biotics database. Federally certified as a Firefighter Type 2 with an emphasis on wildland firefighting.

Athens, Georgia Area

Under, Dr. Chris J. Peterson, served as a field-based technician with intermittent lab work. Research included forest surveys, population sampling, and both qualitative and quantitative monitoring of forest recovery in ecosystems disturbed by wind and fire. Field sites included Georgia State Botanical Gardens, the Great Smoky Mountains, Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge, and the Chattahoochee National Forest. Assisted in published academic studies, developed allometric equations for regenerating native sapling species, and presented original research on carbon cycling in disturbed forests at SEEC 2014.
