About Greg Watson

Hello!Although I am a many-generations Hillbilly from eastern Tennessee I have lived in western Washington since the late 1970s and have many treasured connections to places and people here.I am a UW alum, with a BA in Art History and MA in Museum Studies (Anthropology), both emphasizing long fascination and affection for the indigenous people and cultures of the Salish Sea and Cascades.I have to give recognition to my mentors, Vi taqʷšəblu Hilbert, Upper Skagit Elder, scholar and cultural leader, and Bill Holm, incredible scholar, artist, and tireless advocate of indigenous Northwest Coast people and artists. May their memories endure as long as the generations of us they have influenced and lifted up.After working in museums for fifteen years, I became a public school teacher in 2001 and burdened the lives of teenagers with history, geography and ceramics for 21 years.Discovering that I am terrible at being retired, I worked as a substitute teacher until this April, when I un retired into my dream job with the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation of the Snoqualmie Tribe. My gratitude for this opportunity to the Tribe and to my bosses Steven Moses and Jaime Martin knows no bounds.
