Liepaja, Latvia / West Bank, Palestinian Territory
• Individual immersion with faith-based civil society organizations in international development on three continents: Central America, Eastern Europe, Middle East. Specifically: La Toma, Guatemala; Liepaja, Riga, and Liepa, Latvia; and Beit Jala, West Bank Palestinian Territory. Three return trips in successive years (2015-2017) to Latvia. • Exercised skills in cross-cultural communication; adaptation to foreign culture; introductory language familiarization with Spanish, Latvian, and Arabic; relationship-building for overseas partnerships; ethnographic research; social media management; editing of letters and articles; supervision of camp projects; English-language instruction; crafts inventory and sales; buildings and grounds management and light construction.Details: • Wesley Camp, Liepaja: staff mentor and crafts leader for a United Methodist camp for kids, summers 2014 - 2017. • Hope Center, Liepa: Team renovation of a residential facility which serves unwed teenage mom's, summer 2014. • Riga 1st, United Methodist Church: basement renovation, summer 2014-15.Beit Jala, West Bank, Palestine: Sept - Dec 2014• Hope Secondary School: Assistant to board chair person with grant-writing and letters to supporters; edited communications, wrote articles, and managed social media sites. • English language instruction to four classes with 20 students each. • Informal ethnographic research: interviewed ten persons, attended Kairos International Conference, Global Leadership Summit, and presented findings in 3000 word report, blog, and before three church audiences in New Orleans.
