In 2016, I founded local jam night ‘Neighbourhd’ in Birmingham which some of the best session musicians and artists in the city call home. Over 7 years, I built an environment where a diverse group of aspiring and professional musicians have been able to network and develop their craft.As the founder of a small non-profit, I had many logistical responsibilities including booking bands, managing volunteers and event planning. Over 7 years, I built an environment where a diverse group of aspiring and professional musicians have been able to network and develop their craft.As the founder of a small non-profit, I had many logistical responsibilities including booking bands, managing volunteers and event planning. I was able to use my creative skills to build a meaningful brand and develop a culture that could be mutually beneficial to all stakeholders and contributors on limited budgets. I was able to use interpersonal skills to build a strong network and partnerships. I was also the primary master of ceremonies, using my skills in performance to reinforce and inspire vision from the platform whilst setting a great atmosphere.There is currently no larger community hub where creatives can get together, collaborate and network on a regular basis in the city of Birmingham than Neighbourhd. In November 2023, I decided it was time to focus on other personal goals so I handed Neighbourhd over to a team of volunteers who are excited to take the event into its next chapter. If you go along on the first Monday of the month to the Night Owl, you will see that the generous, collaborative, proficient and welcoming culture, which I helped lead, is still alive at the events.
