Drove projects with US and global multi-discipline engineering teams from concept through to commercialization. Collaborate with corporate clinical, sales, and marketing teams (US/OUS) on all projects to define user needs, translation of needs into product requirements, and customer evaluation of prototypes products to develop user-focused products. Senior engineer on the Front End Innovation Team (FEI) tasked with identifying new market opportunities for the business units and define/scope product concepts to address the opportunities. To-date identified > 350 unmet needs, seven major opportunities for three business units, and presented >30 product concepts. Lead engineer for the development of acute vascular catheters with graft-from non-fouling surfaces combined with antimicrobial elution (project ongoing). Successfully secured and managed non-dilutive research funding totaling $US 4.2 million for orthopedic applications of the graft-from non-fouling technology combined with antimicrobial drug elution. Supported corporate M&A activities by developing a structured process to assess the technology of potential acquisitions, as well as, identifying technologies opportunities for further evaluation by the M&A staff. Oversight of the creation of detailed design documentation, including specifications, test plans, and verification/validation protocols in accordance with US/OUS regulatory statutes.

Assistant lead engineer in the development of a novel indwelling medical device with proprietary, graft-from, non-fouling, surface chemistries from concept through FDA approval and commercialization for a start-up company spun out of MIT. Resulting product lead to the successful sale of the company and technology. Directed and managed all aspects of animal studies for product/technology research and US/OUS regulatory approvals. Directly performed and documented design verification and validation testing results including in vitro testing, in vivo studies and initial user evaluations. Collaborated in writing US/OUS regulatory submissions documents as well as US/OUS intellectual property filings. Successfully secured and managed non-dilutive research funding for orthopedic and respiratory applications for the non-fouling, surface chemistries with two grants totaling $US 3.1 million.
