Michael is a member of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) with a thin sandwich BEng(hons) degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Bath which he undertook between 2001 and 2005. Upon completion of his degree Michael took up a position as a Graduate Highways Engineer at Hyder Consulting (UK) limited where he spent the next four and a half years. During his time at Hyder Michael predominantly worked as a designer on two Highways Agency major projects, the A595 Parton to Lillyhall Improvement and the A57/A628 Mottram in Longdendale, Hollingworth and Tintwistle Bypass. Michael also went on secondments to Staffordshire County Council and HyderTobin joint venture in the Republic of Ireland. Whilst at Staffordshire Michael gained experience working on local safety schemes, Section 38 and Section 278 schemes. Whilst in Ireland Michael helped to prepare a bespoke tender contract for the detailed design and build for the N18 Oranmore to Gort dual carriageway scheme. Upon joining Mouchel in November 2009 Michael initially worked for the 2020 Liverpool joint venture with Liverpool City Council. Michael undertook the detailed design of the high quality Liverpool Commercial District Public Realm scheme and acted as Site Supervisor during the construction phase. He then worked as part of the supervision team for the Edge Lane West Road Improvement scheme which significantly upgraded part of the arterial route from the M62 into Liverpool city centre. Following completion of the Edge Lane West scheme in August 2012, Michael was seconded to 2020 Knowsley where he worked on the design and supervision of a number of maintenance and improvement schemes. Most recently Michael has been working as the highways designer on feasibility schemes for the Highways England northwest priority schemes and preliminary design for large highway improvement schemes for Leeds City Council using infraworks and Civil 3D design software.
