I am a PhD student in Musicology finishing up with coursework and I am currently pursuing positions that seek to engage with the public. Throughout my experiences in higher education, I developed key skills in education, communication, leadership, and research. Below are a few highlights:1) From Fall 2019 through Spring 2024, I was worked as a teaching assistant in music-based courses at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I facilitated discussion sections, graded and provided feedback for assignments, and guest lectured for six distinct courses throughout two departments (Musicology and African American Studies).2) In 2023, I presented two different conference papers that engaged with musical practices based in Louisiana. In October 2024, I presented my most recent case study at the Society for Ethnomusicology, “‘Them Floors are Gonna Cave in on You One Night’: From Sonic Storytelling to Heritage Futures of Louisiana Dance Halls.” 3) From October 2022 through November 2023, I was the project lead for a music album that recorded the University of Illinois' historical Altgeld Chimes. The project required a year of planning, delegation, scheduling, procuring funding, and performance of the bell tower. In Fall 2024, under the Country Music Foundation, I am on a leave of absence to work as the Hatch Show Print Education and Programs intern in Nashville, Tennessee, where I am collaborating with supervisors on best practices in public education pedagogy and providing historical research into Hatch Show Print’s 145-year history.
