Mike graduated from Roger Williams University in 2005 with a degree in Biology. Shortly after graduating he moved to the Caribbean to pursue a career working with marine life. His passion for working with animals was reaffirmed when he had the opportunity to work with South American sea lions. Since 2010, Mike has held positions with increasing levels of responsibility at ZooTampa within the animal department. In his current role as Curator of mammals he is responsible for organizational and area development, strategic planning, project planning and management, and leading animal conservation programs. He has a broad experience across a wide range of taxa, including basic care, advanced training and enrichment, large mammal transport, immobilizations, and restraint.To ensure that the elephant program at ZooTampa not only meets, but strives to set new standards of care, Mike has focused on organizational structure and aligning and building strong teams. He is responsible for coaching and mentoring individuals to achieve both personal and professional success by challenging the status quo. He is best known for his sense of humor and firmly believes that work should be fun. It is well know that he is passionate about three things: his family, the elephants, and his jeep.
