About Michael Burstein
I am a first-year J.D. Candidate at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in Manhattan, NY. While at Cardozo, I have been involved in various groups and sought leadership positions within many of these organizations. I am a Senator-at-Large for the Student Bar Association, working specifically on the Career Services Committee. I serve as a 1L Representative for the Family Law Society helping the executive board organize and promote events. I am a volunteer advocate for the Uncontested Divorce Project through Sanctuary for Families. Additionally, I am a member of the Criminal Law Society, Courtroom Advocates Project, and Sports Law Society.Before going to law school, I attended Wake Forest University where I graduated with dual Bachelor of Arts in Politics & International Affairs and Communication with a minor in Psychology and a concentration in Public Advocacy; all while making Dean's List during each semester. My experiences and coursework allowed me to gain valuable knowledge of the legal field and profession and ultimately helped me decide to pursue a career in law.While a student at Wake Forest, I developed skills and experiences that allow me to contribute at a high level to different teams and organizations through various means. While obtaining my BA, I served as a representative on the Student Budget Advisory Committee by aiding campus organizations through the funding process and sitting in on weekly budget presentation meetings to help allocate university funds to organizations in need of funding. I also served as the Vice President of Alpha Epsilon Pi. In this role, I acted as the first point of contact for all members of the executive board helping to oversee all programming including philanthropy events, brotherhood events to increase a sense of community, and recruitment events. Outside of Wake Forest, I spent the summer of 2023 interning for the Westchester County (NY) District Attorney's Office in the Special Prosecutions Division. Through this experience, I have aided in the prosecution of various people by managing and preparing case material, reviewing case files, conducting research, and transcribing witness and victim interviews. Additionally, since February 2023, I have been a volunteer Guardian ad Litem in Forsyth County, NC advocating for children in court. Advocating in court has required a sophisticated level of balance to ensure that the best interests of the child are met while maintaining the importance of family and permanence.
