I have three years of experience in an fMRI imaging lab focused on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. I have experience managing questionnaires, engaging in interpersonal lab work, and training with the fMRI machine itself. I have also worked at a camp for a few summers within Bankhead National Forest, which has given me a wealth of experience handling situations involving persons of all abilities. This experience exposed me to various challenges and organizational issues that created a wide variety of skills regarding efficiency, leadership, and efficacy when faced with expected and out-of-the-ordinary problems. During my time working for Camp McDowell, I gained considerable experience working with individuals of various abilities, including working sessions intended to blend populations of those with severe disabilities and typically abled children. I thoroughly enjoyed this work and found a compelling interest in helping and better understanding those with Down Syndrome and other disabilities. I have also volunteered for a year at DCH Health Systems, the largest hospital in Tuscaloosa. Having worked 6 different departments I have been exposed to challenges working alongside nurses that have given me a good platform of knowledge with which to work in regard to stressful and difficult situations.
