About Michael C. Vogt, Ph.D.

Research Scientist / Development Engineer. The goal of my career has been to address and resolve difficult scientific and engineering problems in government, defense, and commercial industry, through practical, innovative, and clever application of advanced scientific principles and concepts. My work defines new research directions by integrating artificial intelligence/machine learning and intelligent agents into systems modeling, data mining and big data manipulation, decision-making and expert systems, and predictive analytics. My current work has brought my skill set to the emergent industry of drones and unmanned systems where I operate the largest civilian fleet in the state for research and applications training. North American Robotics (NAR) has a fleet of 150 unmanned aircraft including industrial rugged-ized copters and large long-duration winged aircraft. NAR also has new autonomous unmanned surface vessels (AUSV)s capable of surveying inland lakes and riverways. (see link to NAR's website for more details). My background with DoD drones sees me regularly contracted by the U.S. Army as a historian/liaison visiting professional organizations and schools lecturing on the history of unmanned aircraft, their STEM educational aspects, and their future applications.

I have returned to consulting for government, large private enterprises, and small businesses. I landed new commercial contracts that allowed me to work directly with Microsoft debugging and refining their newest high-performance cloud servers for inferencing/ML models. I completed this work for Microsoft in early 2024, and immediately their clients were able to drop operating costs for national-scale AI image processing from over $50K per month to less than $2K per month – an actual 30X decrease in operating cost with 2X increase in throughput. It has been a huge success. I have established this approach and now it is ready for other customers. Consulting has also been an opportunity to address several publishers’ requests to author new technical manuscripts. I have a new 200 page textbook entitled "Generative AI for Cyber Securing SCADA - Essentials and Strategies" in production w Packt> Publishing in London. Watch for it to be released first thing in 2025. And, while I have been a pioneer in applied Reinforcement Learning, I continue to add to my professional certifications for this powerful problem-solving and optimization technique, and its implementation in Azure cloud.
