For the nearly 30 years, I have written on everything from illegal logging to Formula One racing in the United States and abroad. I got my start with newspapers in New Jersey, spending the first decade covering the historic but troubled city of Paterson. I watched the city knock down public housing developments, lose the schools to state control and documented a mayor convicted of corruption. I also covered the 9-11 terrorists attacks and several major plane crashes. I relocated to Indonesia in 2002, joining The Associated Press. I covered the emergence of democracy and terrorism as well as the 2004 tsunami. I moved to Thailand in 2005 to cover climate change, poaching, pollution and other environmental issues across Asia and then to Dubai with AP in 2010 to coordinate the wire service's sports coverage in the Middle East. I left the AP in 2013 to pursue a MA in Journalism from Columbia University. As part of the degree program, I wrote a 10,000 word thesis on how women are routinely discriminated against after disasters. I plan to eventually write a book on disasters and how they change societies. Since graduating, I've covered energy, science and sports at fortune.com before moving onto sci-tech editor at cbsnews.com and FoxNews.com. I rejoined the AP overseeing operations in northern New England and writing on the environment and science. Since the pandemic, I have begun covering housing issues including evictions and worked on a series about those who died during the pandemic.Specialties: Editing, Multimedia, Enterprise writing, Photography, social media, Environmental Reporting.
