Dr. Chambers' role is to support, enhance and create infrastructure to promote innovation and to help advance technologies developed at the University of South Alabama to commercialization.Dr. Chambers serves as Executive Director of CREATE, the Center for Research, Entrepreneurial Activities, Training and Education.Within CREATE he is the Executive Director and Principal Investigator (PI) of the USA I-Corps Site designated by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Executive Director of RAMP, a MIT licensed business mentoring program serving the Gulf Coast. He is the designated PI on a NSF funded industry-university collaboration (IUCRC) and co-PI on another NSF grant teaching transition of technology into practice.

Swift, in collaboration with the Mitchell Cancer Institute at the University of South Alabama, is developing screens and diagnostics for endometrial and ovarian cancer, two of the leading causes of death in women in the United States. This technology received a $1.1M grant from the National Institute of Health and was awarded the Eugene Bricker Award for best global research at a meeting of the International Society of Pelvic Surgeons in Germany.Dr. Chambers served as President & CEO of Swift until November 2015 when he accepted a position at the University of South Alabama. He continues to serve as Chairman of the Board.

Chambers serves as arbitrator in cases throughout the United States on the International, Class Action, Large Complex Case and Commercial panels of the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”). Those cases have involved Fortune 500 cases and involved claims in excess of $175M. He was previously selected to serve as Co-Chair of two national panels of arbitrators deciding issues in the class action settlements involving New York Life and Transamerica Insurance Companies. He recently was selected and issued a published opinion as the sole arbitrator deciding class action status in a case involving Time Warner.At the request of the AAA, he has helped create several courses to train all individuals applying in the United States to serve as arbitrators and screen them before approval to specific panels. Over several decades, he has taught over 20 courses to attorneys, academics, and retired judges seeking appointment to AAA Panels. From an audience that is arguably hard to impress, he has consistently been given the highest rating of “Excellent” in surveys of participants. He was previously certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in the United States as a Civil Trial Specialist and for a time served as Examiner, reviewing and grading the exams to determine which attorneys would receive this certification.

In 2014, Chambers was selected to serve as Chairman of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce. In setting goals for the organization, he established entrepreneurship training and mentoring as two key initiatives to support small businesses and start-ups during his tenure as Chair. Following the Leaders’ Exchange to St. Louis and the study of that city’s efforts to support business, the Chamber facilitated, with broad community support, the founding of Innovate Mobile. This new organization targeted new quality of life initiatives and support for start-ups that focused on a science and technology center in downtown Mobile and an entrepreneurship training and mentoring program.

Chambers helped found InnoRx Pharmaceuticals, a company specializing in development of drugs and drug delivery systems for ocular disease. He served as President and CEO of InnoRx until negotiating its sale and merger into SurModics (NASDAQ: SRDX) in January 2005. At InnoRx, Chambers negotiated over 50 non-disclosure agreements with potential pharmaceutical partners, managed a domestic and international patent portfolio with three patent firms, 510(k) exemptions, presentations before the FDA and the successful filing and approval of an IND (investigative new drug) application.
