1st Choice is a leading provider of Home Health and Personal Attendant services in Northeast Texas. We currently serve approximately 300 patients through our skilled Medicare division + 100 clients through our non-skilled Medicaid division. I was recruited to resolve long-term internal conflict among partners & managers + increase organization, efficiency & profitability in a challenging bureaucratic & economic environment. We immediately addressed & drastically reduced conflict between RN managers / partners, which was threatening the business.I helped replace lost referral sources & community inclusion, curbing a steady reduction in skilled census. I oversaw the development of new services to clients who require non-skilled services & are not yet eligible for Medicare.We uncovered inefficiencies & reduced office expenses by over $100,000/yr.

I co-founded & operated a Motor Carrier / Freight Brokerage with a friend of mine who had already been successful in trucking. After 3 years, my partner had personal problems & retired, leaving me to pick up the pieces in an industry that was foreign to me. I learned a new industry on the fly.We accumulated as many as 30 tractors, 25 drivers & 50 trailers at any given time.We navigated a perfect storm of skyrocketing diesel prices, driver wages, insurance & truck parts while the government added new emissions regulations which caused truck MPG’s to plummet.I can’t claim we were financially successful, but we did survive 15 years while many larger & more mature carriers went bankrupt.We developed & executed an exit strategy so that I could return to my roots in healthcare.

As a young man, I served as Administrator for several nursing homes in Texas, including Hillhaven facilities in Austin, El Paso & Odessa + Kilgore Nursing Center (Beverly & THE), Lynn Lodge in Longview (ARA), Pebble Creek in El Paso (Pendergras) & several Hightower facilities in Missouri.These facilities ranged in size from 60-200 beds & 50-300 employees.I was Administrator of 2 facilities that earned The State of Texas’ coveted “Superior Rating” for quality care.Every facility I served as Administrator was profitable & commended for both its state surveys & its financial efficiency.I was recruited from Texas to manage a group of 5 facilities in Missouri.
