In 2005, Cannon AFB was on the BRAC and closed. The BRAC commission decided to realign the F16 fighter base and assign Special operations squadrons for the AC130 gunships, V22 Osprey and a drone fighter control center. The mission for the 27 Special Operations Squadron (Engineering) was to design and realign the facilities to meet the new mission requirements.
