I grew up in Hong Kong, a city known to many as the concrete jungle of Southeast Asia. Due to the scarcity of land, 7.4 million of its people live in flats stacked up on top of each other. Interestingly, this subtropical Hong Kong is also home to much rare vegetation and wildlife. As a young boy, I have been fascinated with spotting animals on my weekly hikes with my father. My interests have only grown and I aspire to develop my knowledge and future career around Animal Science, Welfare, and Behaviour.I had 4 animal-related work experiences. In 2018, I took care of horses at the Hong Kong Jockey Club's Public Riding School in Tuen Mun, which was a memorable and fascinating experience as that was my first time riding horses as well as learning how to clean and take good care of them. In 2020, I worked in a pets' products manufacturer and distributor company- Petagon Limited. I learnt about the nutrients and chemicals in pet foods, disinfectant products and many more, which is advantageous for animal care. Last year, I did volunteering at the Hong Kong Rabbit Society. My responsibilities include cleaning cages, feeding, and refilling water bottles. But most of all, I looked after ill rabbits and learned about different types of diseases rabbits suffer from. In the summer of 2022, I did volunteering at Hong Kong Dog Rescue. My responsibilities were dog walking, grooming, debridement, training dogs, and socializing. Most importantly, I learned how to socialize with dogs and how to earn their trust.
