CurrentMichael Collins has thirty-one years of experience as a litigator and trial lawyer, the last twenty-seven of which have been primarily devoted to intellectual property matters. He has practiced law in large national firms as well as in small nationally-recognized patent litigation boutiques. In recent years, his practice has emphasized patent litigation while also continuing to represent clients in other types of intellectual property and technology litigation matters. He has litigated patent infringement actions in federal district courts throughout the country, including in the Eastern District of Texas and Northern District of California. He also has substantial experience handling trade secret misappropriation matters in the state courts of both Texas and Florida. Mr. Collins has also served as lead attorney in post-grant reviews before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, Section 337 investigations before the ITC, and has argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Collins also has substantial experience representing clients involved in disputes over the design and construction of large power plants and chemical manufacturing complexes. He was named a "Texas Super Lawyer" in the area of Intellectual Property Litigation in each of the years from 2013 through 2021.Mr. Collins’ litigation experience encompasses a wide range of technologies, including semiconductors, oil and gas exploration and production, software, vehicle tracking, consumer electronics, wireless telecommunications systems, web-based business methods, optics, building structures, medical devices, food processing, transportation, conventional and nuclear power, petrochemicals, industrial valves, combined cycle gas turbines, petrochemical catalyst handling methods, corrugated packaging and flywheel energy storage systems. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Collins was a project engineer and project manager for Exxon Company U.S.A. and, later, for the M.W. Kellogg Company.
