I am currently in the second term of my newly qualified teacher induction year, (N Q T) which I complete in July. I have spent a good number of years teaching and coaching a variety of sports, to children and young people. At all times, I have considered, and ensured, that ‘the child’ was at the centre of my teaching. I encourage children not only to participate in, and learn from activities, but also to promote self-esteem, confidence and leadership skills. The aim is to develop their proficiency and competency, and most of all to inculcate in them a joy and love of the activities. As a passionate participant myself, my goal is to impart to these young people a similar interest, in order that they sustain a positive approach. In respect of teaching and developing these skills, I consider leadership, the ability to team build, the promotion of inclusivity and co-operative learning to be central to realising the best possible outcomes.To date, I have taught a wide range of physical activities, up to and including G C S E and A Level equivalent. The coaching badges that I hold, include football, gymnastics, handball, trampoline, fitness, badminton and swimming. I have delivered Asdan courses across a wide range of activities, including fitness and gymnastics. At my current school I supervise after school clubs, where pupils can consolidate and develop further the skills and drills learnt in classes, as well as increasing their confidence. My Continuing Professional Development training in school is ongoing.Once a week I run the School Council, in which issues pertaining to various aspects of school life are discussed, for example, more play equipment in the playground or a wider range of boys’ books in the library. This I consider a good forum in which the importance of democracy and British values can be aired. One of my past ‘school councillors’ has recently embarked on a history course at university with a view to pursuing a career in politics.
