Operating a landfill power plant by maintaining all duties and responsibilities as a sole operator. Which includes all office duties from ordering parts for equipment, maintaining records of multiple types, hosting tours, office organization and cleaning. Keeping up with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all equipment in plant. Knowledge of operation and perform maintenance and troubleshooting on gas chromatograph which is used in calculation for payment of gas used. Adjusting load on engines and tuning on them to maximize output of plant by watching gas quality that is ever-changing. Knowledge of operation and installation of data recorders. Keeping a good working relationship with various landfill officials to solve problems on the landfill well field. Performing monthly exhaust oxygen tests and reporting it to the EPA, also communicating with EPA officials when they have surprise visits to check exhaust. Helping landfill personnel to troubleshoot and repair landfill gas collection system problems. Covering multiple other landfill power plants while the operators are on vacation or off duty. Assisting in multiple teardown and rebuild of engines including other plants while training other operators on proper procedures. Troubleshooting and repairing any electrical or mechanical problems that may hinder the steady operation of the plant. Advanced knowledge of AC and DC circuits, schematics, theory and troubleshooting. Advanced knowledge of landfill well field theory, operation, repair and troubleshooting. Knowledge of paralleling electrical generators to the utility grid and understanding of how electricity is transmitted throughout the grid. Communication with both utility and distribution dispatch personnel to bring plant on the system in a safe and timely manner. Job requires living within one hour of the plant and responding within that hour. Required to be on call 24/7 and make command decisions when there is a problem on call out.

Performing preventive maintenance and upkeep on Caterpillar and other brands of emergency power generation units with automatic transfer switches. Installation of permanent and rental emergency generation equipment for hospitals, data centers, and other business's. Maintenance and repair of many different types of industrial engines in multiple applications. Troubleshooting engines, generators, relays, breakers, switches, motors, timing devices and circuits. Performing warranty repairs and installations on all generators and all automatic transfer switches. Load bank testing of hospitals and other emergency generator sets per NFPA 110 standards, by calculating voltages, ampacity and kilowatt ratings, then hooking up cables and operating test equipment. Providing total rebuild of any engine or prime mover to satisfy the customer. Suggesting possible modifications or ideas to help benefit the customer. Provide rapid response to all hospitals within the central Kentucky area when a problem occurs. Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of personal tools, company vehicle, pager and cell phone. Job position required on call status 24/7.

Third shop direct support, duties included troubleshooting and repairing 3, 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 kilowatt generators. Learning how to trace and read both simple and complex wiring diagrams and schematics. Troubleshooting included relays, switches, circuits, breakers and running a load bank. Repaired everything except the wiring in the main rotor and stator. Then reenlisted and picked watercraft engineer where duties included tear down and rebuild of several diesel engines, tear down of hydraulic systems and learning of hydraulic schematics and diagrams.
