While I was an intern at Sun Life Financials’ International division, my main takeaways involved learning to analyze current financial models and represent them in a more effective way as well as developing my technological skills in Excel and VBA. Often, I was working on multiple projects at once, as well as attending meetings that involved the discussion of the monthly and yearly reporting to the company’s corporate office. My main projects had me working with a team that was spread out across multiple offices. Together, we analyzed the current performance of the division and employed different methods to increase the profit potential of the company in the future. This included new pricing models for recently added Universal Life Products as well as the elimination of any subpar products or processes effecting the company’s expenses. Other projects that I worked on required me to further develop my knowledge in Excel by employing new methods to improve data management as well as learning new skills such as VBA to automate the reporting of fees related to deals with stock indices such as the S&P 500, Hang Seng, and Stoxx. By the end of the internship I was required to report what I had learned and how I had benefitted the company over the summer to a plethora of different people including the Vice President of Operations for U.S. division of the company.

At the HomeGoods in Framingham I worked as a remodel and floor worker. I worked with a large diverse group of people to completely remodel the store while the store was open. This forced us to provide customer service while replacing old fixtures and products in the store with new ones. I had to adapt to situations that normally would have caused set-backs by having excellent communication throughout the team. I also evaluated products to determine proper pricing and discounts on pieces depending on quality. Overall, I gained a great deal of experience in customer service as well as working under high stress and multi-tasking.

At Wendy's I worked as a crew member who had multiple jobs ranging from working with customers, cooking food, and working and fixing computers/other technology. Here I cooperated with a diverse group of workers to produce the quickest service possible. Together we had to multi-task between jobs in a high stress environment while maintaining customer satisfaction. There were also times when technology malfunctioned such as display screens or staff computers. When this happened I worked with a group of people to fix anything that needed repair. This job has given me plenty of practice with customer experience as well as working in a high stress environment and multi-tasking.

During the program I worked with a small team of people to develop a concept for a stand to represent EMC products at a technology convention. Once we developed our idea we built a powerpoint and presented it to a group of EMC associates who judged and gave feedback after the presentation. This program gave me a great amount of experience with professional presenting and teamwork.

During this camp, I managed upcoming athletes and taught them sprinting techniques to better develop their running abilities. I worked with other coaches and workers in the camp as well to effectively run the camp to provide the attendees the best experience possible. Every day I had to adapt my style of teaching depending on the age group to create the most efficient learning area. The camp had kids from the ages of 8-16 and this forced me to come up with creative ideas to keep the interest of different age groups. Overall, this camp developed my ability to manage groups of people as well as working with others to come up with ideas on how to create a friendly camp environment.
