The Spirit Of Maria Cafe was opened after Covid to provide employment for displaced cafe hospitality staff in Triabunna. The cafe provides exceptional food options for people visiting Maria Island National Park, as well as the working community of Triabunna. The cafe works in partnership with local suppliers for cafe products and kitchen supplies. The business has a very strong focus on ethically responsible and sustainable practices, using all compostable takeaway packaging, fully compostable food wrap, responsibly sourced coffee, free range chicken products, milk on tap, and glass bottle cold takeaway drinks. We have reduce our comparable plastic waste by 90%. Quality expired food is also offered to the community at the end of each day before being disposed to land fill.

The Maria Island Shuttle provides a daily transport service from Hobart to the Maria Island Ferry in Triabunna between October and May. Our buses provide the only dedicated daily bus transport service direct from Hobart to Maria Island National Park.

East Coast Cruises is a tour company specialising in "cruise & walk" tours to Maria Island National Park and Ile Des Phoques Nature Reserve. East Coast Cruises (trading as Maria Island Cruises) operates two vessels from the marina at Triabunna and a booking office and souvenir shop in the town's main street. East Coast Cruises is owned and operated by Michael Davis. Michael has been cruising to Maria Island since 2006, whilst also maintaining his role as a marine biologist, fisheries scientist, commercial diver and master SCUBA instructor. Michael shares his passion with passionate staff working alongside to bring one of the most enthralling and unique experiences on Tasmania's stunning East Coast. East Coast Cruises also operates a shuttle bus service from Hobart and cafe in Triabunna.

Aqua Scuba was a lead dive retail, service and dive training centre in the Hobart CBD. During my four years working in the business, I was involved in every element of the business' service provision. The ability to gain knowledge and skills servicing complex commercial dive equipment was invaluable for later opportunities in the commercial dive industry and was the keystone employment for starting my own company in dive tourism. At the completion of my employment with Aqua Scuba, I started my own business on the East Coast of Tasmania in dive tourism, linking with Aqua Scuba to offer their business in Hobart a charter dive experience at Maria Island. GM-CSF is a cytokine (protein) responsible for regulating haematopoesis in the bone marrow of mammals. GM-CSF initiates the differentiation and proliferation of granulocytes and macrophages (white blood cells or T-cells) from bone marrow stem cells in response to immune stimuli. Aberrant expression of GM-CSF characterises the uncontrolled proliferation of T-cells and leads to many debilitating autoimmune diseases, such as leukemia and asthma. Recognising the control points in this molecular “switch” is vital for the development of therapeutics that may ultimately target GM-CSF and prevent this uncontrolled expression. One control point in the ‘switching’ on and off of GM-CSF appears to be the recruitment of two nuclear proteins, a transcription factor and a chromatin remodeller (brg1). Our project investigated whether these proteins interacted together upon recruitment to the GM-CSF promoter, and if so, discerning the nature of the interaction.
