Trade Show Teamster
CurrentThe main part of my job is loading/unloading trucks with the use of a forklift and also putting those items back in storage or pulling them for shipment. We assist other trades when they are in need of a forklift. I work in our warehouse as well as our show sites which mainly include convention centers and hotels. When I am not on a forklift I help to maintain a lot of our equipment as we need to keep it "show-ready'". We also have to work without the assistance of a forklift at times so we manually move a lot of our equipment if we are in a location that does not allow forklifts. On top of the physical labor aspect, I now am a working Union steward. This means I am an on-site representative for any of my fellow teamsters who are working and this extends to my time off of work sometimes. I help to settle disputes between them and management and I try to bridge the gap between what the workers and management effectively want. I also sit in and give input on contract negotiations, disciplinary hearings, contract violations and more. I think this role has helped me a lot when it comes to labor relations and has expanded my credentials.
