Daq Product Manager
I conceived of and developed a commercial turnkey data acquisition software program (ChameleonDaq.com). As the product manager I was responsible for code development, management, sales, marketing, and support. Additional responsibilities included:➢ Developing custom add-on utilities for test control and report generation➢ Designing custom instrumentation enclosures➢ Selection of acquisition hardware components➢ Selection of instrumentation➢ Software trainingI installed high temperature strain gages on the engine support of a Cessna 402 to verify analytical stress estimates. I developed an in-place heating and pressure system for curing high temperature epoxy. Strain measurements were successfully acquired during fight testing.
Principal Engineer
I was the project manager for developing the instrumentation and acquisition system for the Sea Dart Air Ejection Launch System (AELS). Instrumentation included accelerometers, pressure sensors, fast-response thermocouples, and moisture detectors. All instrumentation had to be waterproofed to a depth of 200 feet. In addition to instrumentation I was responsible for cost estimation and control. As the project manager for a whole ship acoustic holography measurement prototype system, I was responsible for the system structural and instrumentation design, acquisition software, and motion control components. I was also responsible for cost estimation and control. The system was successfully tested on the Sea Jet Advanced Electric Ship Demonstrator (AESD) in Idaho. In response to a US Navy solicitation for an Unambiguous (and non-lethal) Warning system concepts, I lead a team of engineers that developed a prototype warning system. The concept involved launching a shell that was timed to detonate just short of the target. The shell was filled with fine powder that created a screen on which a warning projection was displayed. This project led to issuance of US Patent US7710643 B2.Other projects included:➢ Conducted a series of static and shock tests on commercial pumps and electronics cabinets to assess their suitability for use on naval vessels➢ Design of an underwater acoustic array to monitor the sound level of passing vessels➢ Conducted a dockside and underway experimental study to identify the source of a loud low frequency sound at idle speed in a 42’ yacht➢ Conducted quieting studies on large power capacitors➢ Conducted array based testing and processing to estimate the reflection and transmission coefficients of various piping components➢ Created a model to predict the sound attenuation through an underwater bubble screen
Senior Engineer
I had various lead technical and management positions in a multi-year effort to diagnose and develop solutions for a radiated noise problem on a marine vessel. This series of projects involved multiple dockside and underway tests to identify the noise source and path, develop noise treatments, and evaluate performance of the solution. In addition to my technical responsibilities, I was responsible for planning and managing multiple week dockside tests and sea trials. This work resulted in successful installation of the Advanced Noise Attenuator system on several ships.I was the technical lead on a series of projects to develop an active noise control system to suppress low frequency propeller noise in the aft berthing of the Cyclone-class patrol ship. I conducted a series of dockside and underway tests to characterize the problem and test the noise control system. I was also responsible for developing the control algorithm, loudspeaker selection, enclosure design, and coordination with the subcontract manufacturer. The resulting system was fully embedded, autonomous, and provided substantial noise attenuation at the head of each bunk. The system was installed was installed on all ships of the class requiring the production of over 300 units. Other projects included:➢ Project manager for the concept development of an active noise control system for jet engine hush houses➢ Developed experimental modal analysis software including parameter estimation and mode animation utilities➢ Modal analysis of shipboard machinery➢ Passive noise treatment design for shipboard machinery➢ Fabrication and testing of a sniper detection system➢ Concept development for active force control of a cylindrical grinding machine➢ Concept development for active noise control of HVAC ducting

I was responsible for planning and conducting a variety of vibration, acoustic, fatigue, and MIL-SPEC tests to measure and predict the response of printed circuit boards, missile guidance systems, ship cooling fans, and cryogenic coolers.

As and engineer in the test and evaluation group, I was responsible for conducting modal analysis and acoustic testing of aircraft components and flutter models. I was also responsible for evaluating the acoustic emission non-destructive test technology for use with composite structures. As a consultant to Northrop Aircraft, I developed experimental modal analysis software for aircraft ground vibration testing (GVT).
