Michael Doyle Email and Phone Number

Michael is a Bardi person from the Kimberley Region of Western Australia. He has worked in Aboriginal health for over 20 years, commencing his career as an Aboriginal Health Worker in his remote community of Djarindjin in the Kimberly, Western Australia. Michael moved into Aboriginal health research in 2008, working at the Curtin Universities’ National Drug Research Institute, then at UNSW Sydney’s Kirby Institute 2011. He has a Graduate Diploma of Indigenous Health Promotion, Master of Public Health and completed his Doctor of Philosophy in 2018. Michael is currently a post-doctorial Wingara Mura fellow at Sydney University. Michael’s research field is alcohol and other drug (AoD) treatment for Aboriginal men. His PhD focused on prison-based treatment for this group and he plans to continue working in the prison health and AoD research field. He used both qualitative and qualitative methods in the PhD and has published two chapters of his thesis thus far, the most recent was a systematic review of prison-based AoD treatment internationally. He will published further from the PhD over 2019. As an active member of the Aboriginal community, Michael has been involved in community-focused initiatives to improve Aboriginal health and he has served on non-government organisation boards. He has a wide professional network in Aboriginal health. He supports and mentors early career researchers, both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal. Michael is also a member of the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of NSWs’ Human Research Ethics Committee.
