After nine months, co-authored IALR’s reorganization plan with the newly appointed Interim Executive Director at the request of IALR’s Board of Trustees, and eliminated the Deputy Director position, which was merged with and into the Research Director position. Oversaw the redirection of the research and commercialization division of IALR from basic to applied research and monetized same through commercial spin-offs, contract research with commercial entities, and new product development with state-of-the-art advanced lightweight materials and structures.

Danville, Virginia Area

Appointed by the Senate of Virginia to the Board of Trustees of IALR (a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia with an $8 million budget) and undertook a thorough due diligence process of the effectiveness of the organization. Subsequently asked to serve as the Deputy Director of IALR and help the organization achieve its objective of being a catalyst to economic transformation in the region. Responsible for supervising a staff of 53, including scientists and researchers in horticulture and sustainable chemistry, and academics and educators supporting workforce development with Danville Community College, Averett University, Virginia Tech and the Piedmont Governor’s School. Began with New College Institute, the Academy of Engineering and Technology, a two year engineering curriculum combined with experiential learning activities for upper level high school students in the Danville metropolitan area. Helped launch Dan River Plants, LLC as the IALR's first commercial spin-off.
