Battalion Executive Officer And Assistant Professor Of Military Science
Honolulu, Hawaii, United States
As Chief of Staff and second in command of the University of Hawaii host Reserve Officer Training Corps program I synchronized, trained, and supervised the battalion staff with direct oversight of operations, logistics, maintenance, recruiting, and human services. I developed annual lesson plans, training exercises, and social events relevant to all Military Science (MS) levels comprised of 120-150 cadets annually. I was responsible for ensuring the successful recruiting, retention, and progression of all cadets from five college/university campuses on-island, and the America Samoa Community College. I was directly responsible for the training and development of the MS 4 cadets in preparation for their commissioning as officers in the US Army. I oversaw all battalion special programs, to include Environmental Compliance, Safety, and Command Supply Discipline. I was responsible for the management and welfare of over 11 service members, 3 government civilians, 1 contractor, and 3 State of Hawaii employees, and managed a budget exceeding $500K. Significant Contribution: As the primary instructor for the graduating/commissioning class, I developed a novel and objective method for evaluating and grading cadets’ leadership attributes and competencies; this method received accolades from the Inspector General and was adopted as a best practice in Cadet Command. I also restructured the syllabus and created the 400-level course design and created, from nothing, over 108 hours of classroom instruction material. As the BN XO, I restructured the operational rhythm and agendas and synchronized all systems while simultaneously creating a written operations order that drove all operations for cadre and cadets every semester.
