During OIF V our Battery was attached to 6-8 CAV Squadron and performed a non-standard mission of owning battle space south of Baghdad. Our Battery - consisting of one field artillery platoon (task organized as two mechanized infantry platoons), two cavalry scout platoons, and one engineer route clearance platoon - ultimately assumed responsibility for the squadron area of operations and Combat Outpost Dolby. We later relocated to Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kalsu where we assumed three critical missions of providing indirect 155mm artillery and precision (Excalibur) fire in support of 4th Brigade 3rd Infantry Division, providing counter IED/EFP patrols along all main and alternate supply routes in the vicinity of FOB Kalsu, and served as the Brigade and Battalion Quick Reaction Force. Upon redeployment we began transitioning to a light M119A2 towed howitzer unit. Significant Contribution: Coordinated with local Iraqi government officials, sheiks, Iraqi Army, and Iraqi Police to develop systems and plan operations in support of maintaining peace and security while also increasing economic prosperity.
