Michael K. Fitzpatrick has been practicing law in New Orleans since 1972. After graduating from De LaSalle High School he received a Bachelor of the Arts and a Juris Doctor from Tulane University (B.A. 1968, J.D. 1971). After law school Mr. Fitzpatrick clerked for Judge James A. Comiskey in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Thereafter he was a partner at Porteous, Hainkel and Johnson in New Orleans and founded his own firm, Fitzpatrick & Burnette in 2010.Mr. Fitzpatrick specializes in civil litigation defense with experiences in commercial property losses, the investigation of fire causation and the defense of fraud and fire claims including arson. He is legal counsel to several local volunteer fire departments. His trial experience includes practice in both State and Federal courts throughout Louisiana. He handles insurance defense cases including first party commercial coverage claims and liability defense. Mr. Fitzpatrick authored “Discovery Strategy of the Insurer or the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime in Litigating the Civil Arson Cases: Winning Without Getting Burned,” American Bar Association: Section of Tort and Insurance Practice, Division for Professional Education. (1993). He has lectured in the field of fire and fraud investigation.Mr. Fitzpatrick is licensed to practice and a member of the bar of all Louisiana courts, all United States District Courts in Louisiana, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, the Louisiana State Bar Association and the New Orleans Bar Association and several legal organizations. Mr. Fitzpatrick holds an “AV” rating by Martindale-Hubbell.His additional business involvements include real estate and the self-storage business.
