Dr. Friedlander serves as the founding executive director of a major new biomedical and behavioral research institute that represents a public private partnership between a major research intensive state university, Virginia Tech and a major private health system - Carilion Clinic. The VTCRI emphasizes fundamental and translational biomedical and behavioral research major areas of national health including neuropsychiatric disorders, brain injury, autism, addiction and substance abuse, intellectual disabilities, cancer, obesity, infectious diseases and cardiovascular sciences. He also serves as the Senior Dean for Research at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine where he coordinates the research curriculum and research opportunities for the VTCSoM medical students. Dr. Friedlander is also a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and in the School of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering at Virginia Tech.
