About Michael Gorbet, Ph.D.
Current research scientist at Parabon NanoLabs. Tasks include synthesizing, functionalizing, and characterizing multifunctional DNA-based nanostructures.Ph.D. graduate from Oklahoma State University's Comparative Biomedical Sciences (CBSC) program (Dec 2021). Graduate experience involved: i) synthesizing novel lipid or polymeric nanotherapeutics, ii) investigating potential combination chemo-immunotherapies in multiple cancer models, mouse and human (in vitro and in vivo), iii) altering nanoparticle chemistry for optimal transfection efficiency or external-stimulus triggered release. Lab experience included: growing and propagating various cancer cell lines, cell assays, synthesizing external stimuli-sensitive lipid and polymeric-derived nanoparticles, active and passively-loading drugs into nanoparticles. QA/QC was confirmed through characterization techniques: dynamic light scattering (DLS), phase analysis light scattering (PALS), thermal assays, kinetics assays, spectrophotometry, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and more. Graduate from Southwestern Oklahoma State University (May 2016) with a Bachelor's of Science (Chemistry with double minors in Mathematics and Biological Sciences) after attending four years. Research experience included: organic synthesis of tetra- and penta-azamacrocycles, inorganic complexation with transition metals for testing of potential to be used as antimicrobials, contrast agents, CXCR4/CCR5 antagonists/anti-HIV agents, and/or catalysts. QA/QC was maintained by use of a nitrogen glovebox, of which I was trained on. Characterization techniques used: liquid-chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS), gas-chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS), infrared spectroscopy, NMR, conductance, UV-Vis, electrochemistry, elemental analysis, etc. Additionally, I was a main contributor in building a new library of transition metals to be used in the future.Additionally did a summer internship (2016) in Hull, UK working with making a multi-modal system of PET, SPECT, MRI contrast agent with combination nanoparticles.
