Manager - Lead Firmware Developer of the hardware engineering team developing Comverge's line of intelligent, communicating thermostats and switches. These devices incorporate VHF, ZigBee, Wi-Fi and other WAN/LAN technologies to communicate with thermostats within a home or business primarily to provide load reduction capacity for Electric Utilities. The WAN interface also allows Comverge to present a Web based user portal that allows the Utilities’ customers to remotely program and control their thermostat.Comverge’s representative to the CEA-2045 working group. The CEA-2045 specification is designed to provide a modular communications interface to support Utility Demand Control and other high level functionality. I authored several sections in the original document and have submitted several addendums to the document for thermostat, generic user interface messaging and over-the-air firmware programming functions.

Product Engineer and Lead Firmware Engineer for the Comverge IntelliTEMP™ product line. Worked with marketing, project and product managers to develop system level design and specifications. Worked with the QA group to develop system test plans and methods.Responsible for the design and specification of WAN/LAN communications protocols using Google Protocol Buffers.Led the effort to migrate the firmware group from a waterfall design process to Agile development methods. Implemented CUnit testing procedures and developed GCC based simulators and emulators to facilitate testing of hardware interfaces for SPI devices and microprocessor resources. The CUnit testing allows the firmware group to run over 30 thousand assertions every time the firmware is compiled on both PC and Mac platforms. The new process also performs nightly system level test suites using Cruise Control and Cucumber.Received the Comverge Top Innovator award for 2010

Lead firmware and systems engineer on all Maingate™ Commercial and Industrial metering products. The Comverge Maingate™ C&I product is a cellular based communications module that communicates with a commercial/industrial electric meters, allowing the utility to remotely read and configure the meter. Responsible for the coordination of the different engineering groups.Lead Engineer for the Maingate™ S4 development that integrated our gateway product with Landis+Gyr's C&I meters. Worked closely with engineers and managers from Landis+Gyr to define the meter/communications module electrical and mechanical interface.Lead Engineer/Firmware Engineer for the SuperStat® product lines. Worked with Marketing to develop overall product specification and worked with engineers to propagate the requirements to unit level specifications. Technical interface with White Rodgers to co-develop mechanical, electrical and communications interfaces. Designed and specified several communications protocols used with the metering and thermostat devices.

Co founder of Comverge Technologies Inc.Manager of Customer Premises Applications:Responsible for systems requirements specification and documentation. Developed hardware, software, and firmware for devices that communicated using CEBus® power line carrier and RF. Responsible for specification, procurement, and integration of electric meters, thermostats, and load control devices with Comverge’s gateway products. Also designed and developed custom test software and hardware. Chairperson of the CEBus® Industry Council’s Utility Working Group.Facilities Engineer:Lab design and construction for testing residential and commercial meters with voltages ranging from 120 to 480 VAC single and three phase. Also responsible for telephone and data network installation and maintenance.

Systems/Electrical Engineer on the Lucent Customer Connection for Utilities Project. Heavily involved in the design and specification of a bi-directional communications system used to automate utility metering and load control/demand reduction functions. Responsible for all Interface Specifications used between multiple vendors’ commercial products, including thermostats, residential and commercial electric meters and load control switches, and Lucent’s gateway device. Lucent’s technical representative on the EIA’s CEBus® Technical Steering and Language, Protocol, and Interop committees. Designed and constructed numerous demonstration setups and test labs.
