Manage large scale electric transmission projects (line and substation) from initiation through closeout. Responsible for project sanctioning, scope, schedule (project milestones, three-week look aheads, overall), budget (monthly cash flow forecasting, overall budget, current and future fiscal years), risk assessment and management, outage planning, controlling project change requests, lessons learned, and project closeouts. Accountable for leading interdisciplinary project teams to execute the projects from initiation through closeout.

In addition to managing large scale projects for various clients, led a team of up to ten project managers at various stages of their careers. Provided coaching, guidance and support to enable staff members to be effective project managers and understand client expectations and processes.

Provide a comprehensive range of consultative services to utility companies, project developers, regulatory agencies, energy companies, financial organizations, government agencies, and a wide range of entities within the energy industry. Areas of expertise include planning, developing, strategizing, executing, managing, and consulting in the areas of electric transmission and distribution - substations and lines, power generation development and interconnection, and renewable energy resources.Assignments have included:• Construction of a 345 kV transmission line ($90 million) - design of a new line in two states and interfacing with another Transmission Owner; reconfiguration of an existing ROW to create space for new line; siting and permitting at the federal, state(s) and local levels; selection of contractors. • Substation expansion and transformer replacement project ($4 million) - expansion of an existing substation and addition of a new bay to accommodate replacement transformer; replacement and upgrade of existing equipment; relocation of incoming/exiting distribution lines and permitting at state and local levels.• Support generation owners and developers in the PJM, NYISO and ISO-NE markets. Assist clients in understanding market rules and identifying ways to improve market revenues. Evaluated various sites to determine interconnection feasibility. Prepared and managed the interconnection application process.Provided Owner Engineer services to support initial design of interconnecting facilities. Supported siting and permitting applications.• Supported generation developers seeking to exercise the Option to Build. Conducted RFP's to engage an EPC Contractor to construct the interconnection facilities (collector bus yard, generator lead, interconnecting substation). Provided Construction Management support during construction of the and turnover of the facilities. • Manage interfaces among Owner, EPC Contractor, ISO and Transmission Owner.

Led a wide range of functions which establish the strategic direction and growth of NU's transmission business. Areas of responsibility included long term capital planning, development and execution of asset strategies, facilitating generator interconnections under the ISO-NE tariffs, performance analysis, document control process, training program, self-assessment program and risk management functions.• Developed, monitored and reported on the five year capital plan which comprised over 400 projects and totaled $3 billion. Executed processes to identify and obtain funding approval for new projects. Through a rigorous monthly project review process, ensured plan was executed to authorized targets and implemented corrective actions as needed.• Developed asset strategies and methods to ascertain asset health/condition for numerous asset classes to achieve maximum reliability at lowest cost. Using a cross-functional team approach, incorporated demographics, maintenance requirements, past experience, condition assessments and industry experience into the utilization and replacement strategies.• Led the development and maintenance of over 100 key performance indicators used to gauge organizational effectiveness and achievement of annual goals and executed monthly meetings to review results with the transmission leadership team.• Led the implementation of a document control and organizational learning process that contained over 500 policies, procedures, lessons learned, briefing sheets and self-assessments.

Held a number of positions with increasing responsibility in which I led all generation related activities for the U.S. operating companies of National Grid. • Planned and executed all aspects of the power procurement and hedging strategies for National Grid’s provider of last resort service obligations for its electric customers. Obligations exceeded 7,500 MW of peak load and $4 billion a year in purchased power expenses and were conducted in four states in the NYISO and ISO-NE control areas.• Developed National Grid’s power procurement credit risk policy.• Forged and managed relationships with an extensive network of wholesale power suppliers.• Directed the contractual commitments with and administration of purchases from a diverse portfolio of qualifying facilities and independent power producers.• Directed the management of New England Power Company’s residual generation interests including executing strategies to divest the interests.• Represented National Grid and its customers at regional power market forums (NYISO and ISO-NE) in the development of market rules for the restructured wholesale power markets.• Participated in numerous regulatory proceedings involving electric market issues at the state (MA, NH, RI and NH) and federal levels including serving as an expert witness to support the companies’ numerous filings.• Successfully led the transition and integration of multiple energy supply functions into a single/combined organization as a result of various acquisitions/mergers and corporate restructurings.

Conducted wholesale and retail power marketing activities within the NEPOOL region involving the sale/purchase of generation resources to/from investor owned utilities, municipalities, independent power producers, government agencies, brokers, marketers and end-use retail customers. Developed new products to meet market and customer needs such as energy-imbalance service, load-following service for retail wheeling pilot programs and various index based products along with risk management strategies for use with each product offered.

Successfully executed power plant betterment studies and projects, from initiation to completion, which improved the efficiency and availability of New England Power Company’s thermal and hydroelectric generating plants.
