Plant ManagerThis position covered the day to day running of the site, including reporting and carrying out objectives given by head office. The site objectives were met by following certain guidelines along with my personal creativity and leadership of the team. The other aspect of the role was liaising with internal and external clients over their product/s and discussing their future requirements and how we can help improve their business. This involved reviewing our use of power and water along with general waste created. Yearly targets were set and achieved resulting in less environmental impact and cost savings

This role was responsible for the day to day running of three departments, Prepress, Press and Post Press. I was transferred to this role from Capital Community Newspapers initially to fix image setting problems, moving on to creating a computerised system for the prepress department. In developing the system all aspects of the production environment were looked at, this covered meeting deadlines, staffing levels, training and customer requirements. In achieving excellent customer contact, site visits were carried out and help was given to developing and purchasing systems to suit their needs.Key projects achieved• Punch system to help with registration resulting in time savings and a sharper finished product.• Standard colour settings were developed and given to clients to achieve excellent colour reproduction of their finished products. • Developed standard specification sheets for clients, these help with communication and understanding of what is required in terms of the finished product.• Developed a pre-flight system (file checking), which was then rolled out to three other newspaper sites within the group.

After completing a business computing course I got involved in the newspaper industry, initially with the layout of editorial pages. As time progressed I covered most other aspects of the production of newspapers which gave me a good overall understanding of how newspapers are produced.The main achievements while at CCN• Introducing a computerised system for the production of the newspapers produced at CCN. • Purchasing and organising machines for the system.• Sending of completed pages as PDF’s, via ISDN, between Wellington and Wanganui, for print production.• Training staff to work with the new system.
