I have 14 years of teaching experience where I have taught a variety of physics and engineering courses. I am one of 16 teachers in the State of Minnesota approved by the University of Minnesota to teach Phys 1101W: Introductory College Physics in a high school setting through the College in the schools program. I am now a member of the advisory committee of this CIS physics program where we facilitate a small group of instructors so that we may constantly improve the course and student achievement. In the classroom I have focused on a model based instructional strategy where students are involved in experiential learning activities where data drives the formation of models that we test, break, and remake. This focus on model instruction strategies has given me a lot of experience with course and experiment development that facilitates learning and engagement.I have been involved three different RET ( Research Experience for Teachers) programs since 2012. Each has given me the opportunity to conduct research in a modern laboratory setting. My first experience was in a condensed matter lab at the University of Minnesota working with the deposition of thin films and the nanofabrication of structures using electron beam lithography. My second experience was through the 3M TWIST (Teachers Working in Science and Technology) program where I worked in a fire protection lab working on improving the physical characteristics of an intumescent epoxy coating for structural steal. My third experience was with the University of Minnesota Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers where I studied the formation and optical properties of luminescent solar concentrators.
