In the course of his career, Michael has represented a broad range of business clients engaged in commercial litigation in all jurisdictions, usually in the Superior Courts. Typically these matters involve complex contractual disputes between business entities, misleading and deceptive conduct/misrepresentation cases or actions for infringement of intellectual property rights.Michael also has a strong administrative law practice, in particular representing registered training organisations (RTO’s) operating in the vocational education and training (VET) sector. VET matters often involve appealing decisions of the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). Michael has also represented RTO’s in matters involving the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA). Michael’s practice also includes representing clients operating in regulated occupations, such as estate agents, accredited taxi operators and motor car traders. Those clients are regulated by the Business Licensing Authority (BLA) and/or Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV). BLA and CAV matters usually involve appealing the suspension or cancellation of licences, registrations or approvals required to carry on business in a particular occupation. Michael also represents and advises incorporated associations and their members in matters arising under Associations Incorporations Reform Act 2012.Michael appeared successfully for the Applicant in Westside Real Estate Investments v Business Licensing Authority [2003] VCAT 1696 (3 November 2003), the only case ever brought before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal involving the now repealed section 36 of the Estate Agents Act 1980.
