I co-founded Visgence in 2012 to work on combining my skills in sensing systems and web programming into useful networking tools, both for the Internet of Things and traditional enterprise IT. I act as President and lead developer on several projects.I am primarily responsible for management of customer software and networking projects, general project and business management, and field deployments of systems. I lead a highly skilled team of programmers, web designers, and field contractors, to get the job done on time and to our high quality standards.

As a GK12 Fellow, my main job was to work with a partner teacher to develop and publish science lessons for 8th grade students. I published the lessons online, conducted surveys of student feedback, and put together posters and attended conferences to promote the work we were doing. I also worked with other graduate students and professors to develop concepts of "computational thinking" for inclusion in a research paper.

As a Student Network Programmer, I was responsible for developing and maintaining a variety of software critical to Network Operations Center. This included network monitoring software (Grasshopper), a single-sign-on service for software and network equipment, a helpdesk ticketing system for abuse complaints (e.g. DMCA infringement, viruses and spam), and the implementation of a high-availability system for DNS, DHCP, and Network Access Control.

As an assistant system administrator, I was responsible for creating and maintaining documentation of the network and IT policies and procedures, providing IT support to other employees (e.g. setting up computers and printers, troubleshooting software and network issues), implementing and maintaining network monitoring and security (Nagios, Cacti, Snort), and creating software to improve business processes. My main contributions were introducing pro-active network monitoring and writing an application to manage the sample processing workflow.The order management application was web-based (PHP, MySQL), and replaced an existing workflow based on MS Excel. As the company scaled, the Excel-based workflow had issues with speed, concurrency, and data integrity. The new system allowed multiple employees to access the data, kept backups in a central location, and greatly improved the quality, visibility, and speed of the overall workflow.With a team of other students, I also worked on project to build a shipping label application which integrated with GTL's ordering system. The Java application allowed a user to scan a barcode on an order sheet, would query the order database via HTTP/SOAP, format, and print a shipping label. It replaced a manual process, improving the speed and accuracy of the shipping department.

I worked at Qwest* over the summer after I graduated High School. During my time there, I was able to clear a significant amount of backlog work from around the state. I mostly used AutoCAD to draw detailed work diagrams for technicians, but also used an internal GIS/CAD/planning tool for designing outside plant projects from start to finish.
