The AARP Bulletin and AARP Magazine, are the largest circulation publications in America, reaching 38 million readers each month in print, and additional millions online. And the work I've done on those publications has been recognized as among the best in magazine publishing. In 2020, the AARP Bulletin won the Best Single Issue award at the annual Folio Awards Banquet for a cover story I edited and helped write. The Bulletin also won best investigative and series awards in 2020. During my time at AARP, the publications have been among the most honored by awards from peers in magazine journalism. Covering Medicare, Social Security, health issues, consumer protection, personal finance, and national news developments, the AARP Bulletin is a leading source of information on issues that have an impact on Americans 50 and over. It has become a must-read for executive branch policy makers, members of Congress and their staffs and Washington opinion leaders, and it provides AARP members with critical information.

Helped build, and managed a staff that produced six newspapers a week, with an average circulation in Washington and its suburbs of 150,000. Under my supervision The Washington Examiner won a number of local and regional awards, and consistently beat the Washington Post to major stories on local government waste, fraud and abuse, serious Metrorail problems and many others. The Examiner's coverage of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority led directly to a Congressional investigation of hiring abuses and contracting fraud. I also managed the Examiner's White House, Congressional and international coverage, which included daily staff reports from national political beats and occasional overseas forays.

Served as one of the paper's national writers, reporting on stories like Hurricane Katrina. Was the Chronicle's war zone reporter, traveling multiple times to Afghanistan and Iraq.

Covered the Clinton administration, and did investigative reporting on issues like the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Reported on national security issues and the war on drugs. Was Scripps' correspondent at the Clinton Senate impeachment trial. Covered the Pentagon and did multiple trips to the Balkans to write about the war in Kosovo.

Covered several overseas conflicts, including Desert Storm, Bosnia, Somalia, Haiti, Rwanda, the West Bank, Peru and Colombia.Was the paper's reporter on major national news stories like riots in LA and MIami, trials like Manuel Noriega and William Kennedy Smith, Hurricane Andrew, the drug war in the US and in Latin America and many others.
